This talent, if you like, is encouraged by Neutrinos, a software consultancy that collaborates with Apple to provide various applications enabling users to express themselves as they like in any circumstances.It introduced the PoetrySinger software application to allow creative people having an iPhone or iPod Touch to compose and share poetry via the advanced multi-touch sensitive interface of the world’s most popular handset.

They can share the poems with fiends by publishing them directly from the iPhone on the website, so the others to be able to download them and enjoy the playback. Uploads and downloads are performed wirelessly at high speeds, thanks to the 3G connectivity support. David Peixotto, CTO of Neutrinos, explains in short words:"We wanted to create a new level of interaction for magnetic tile poetry fans. PoetrySinger kicks this off by allowing people to interact by their publishing their poems online."

The cool aspect of the story is that the new application allows you to playback the poems with spoken voice, just to make it more fun and enjoyable, in addition to the interface that displays your words on magnetic tiles."We realized that this would allow us to create audio recordings of each word so that poems can be read back out loud without a speech synthesizer," said Neutrinos' co-founder, Rob Banagale.

After you install the applications, all the future updates will come automatically.The purchase price was not yet unveiled, as the PoetrySinger is prepared for the availability on iTunes.

We know that many of you complained about iPhone 3G problems and some have even returned their handsets back to the telecommunication company. The Cup NextGen PC Design Competition

This is an interesting personal computer concept based on the idea of a familiar and everyday device that could be improved with the next-generation technologies in order to create a high-end mobile companion.
It would provide the user with most computing functionalities but its shape limits its capabilities. For example you could use the cup-shaped computer for storing files, organize them, sharing and as a projector on the desk.

The technologies that could be used to create such a device include holographic touchscreen, infrared connectivity which removes the need for USBs, and an intuitive user interface.

The Cup uses the plate to integrate the battery charger, while on the cup we find the blue LED light which indicated when it’s On or Off, the holographic projector lens, a logo and the intuitive user interface system.

Yuno Concept NextGen PC Design Competition

Since its appearance, the Yuno PC concept was a pleasant surprise for many of us because of its unique shape of a long cup of coffee, capable to display the contacts and menus on its exterior surface that is a large touch-sensitive OLED display.

It was designed especially for business professionals, but also for people who like to travel, as a mobile companion that would serve as the morning and afternoon coffee cup as well as a cool personal computer.Although it is a cool computer design concept I can’t say it is meant to replace a laptop, because it doesn’t provide a keyboard to complete your Office documents or PowerPoint presentation projects.
Yuno measures 6.25 x 3.75 inches and is washable if you remove the detachable bottom that houses the hardware.

While drinking your hot coffee or tea in the morning you can just touch its surface to reveal the latest emails, information on stocks, news and even traffic. When you’re done reading you can simply set a nice wallpaper on its surface and take it with you at work.

ZEN NextGen PC Design Competition

<-234x60 Half Banner - left->Among the computer design concepts we wrote about on Techpin recently are two specifically designed for visually impaired. If these 2 computers would exist on the market, people with eye disabilities would benefit from several next-generation technologies such as an intuitive tactile user interface, the magneclay material with morphing capability to take the shape of all Braille symbols, and 3D relief images brought by the Siafu concept, while ZEN would deliver something more complex but also in a single stylish portable computer.

ZEN’s design is inspired from Zen Buddhism and conceived as a combination of Sandbox PC hardware running on the ZEN operating system concept.Its name comes from “Z-axis Enabled” suggesting the full interactive 3D computer functionality.

One of the Sandbox PC components is the electronic Active Surface, matrix of tiny fibers which make up each pixel, capable of taking various shapes for easy Braille reading, windows scrolling, icons and several textures. The surface activates when you scratch it with the fingers, based on touch-sensitivity technology.

ZEN measures 36 x 17 x 2.8 inches with 0.7 inch thickness and a 7 degrees work angle.When the blind user touches its tactile surface that replaces the keyboard, ZEN turns On and the user feels what is on the surface including emails text, web pages text and others. For music and sound effects the computer comes with built-in speakers, saving significant space on the desk.

Also there is no cable used for connectivity as all happens wirelessly. For example to charge a cell phone the user has to place it on ZEN’s surface and the handset starts to recharge automatically. Same thing would happen with the other mobile devices.

The designer didn’t specify a name for the material that takes different shapes from ZEN’s surface, revealing 3D images like animated ripples and landscapes, but he suggested the digital mater-like material developed by Carnegie Mellon University. Anyway, it is very similar with Siafu’s magneclay.

The fibers from the Active Surface are shifting up and down creating a variation in depth across the matrix of fibers, and these accept pressure input to change their shape.This technology permits the enabled computer to be a perfect device for online communication, document management, media playing, file sharing and so on, all done wirelessly and with eyes closed.
ZEN is the last PC concept from the NextGen PC Design Competition 2007-2008, in the alphabetical order, featured during the last two months. Now we'll have to wait until the judges decide which concept from the 31 finalists will occupy the first place.

Today you are invited to discover or recall the latest gadgets in technology, which marked our personal entertainment experience and work productivity during last year. They are all complex devices capable to perform intensive tasks, but coming in simple designs with user-friendly interfaces.
If we start with the communication sector, first gadget we will think of is, of course, the popular iPhone 3G, Apple’s latest release, which is the world’s first and only multi-touchscreen cell phone available for customers worldwide. This innovative technology introduced by Microsoft’s Surface table, allows you to control applications on your phone using your fingers for typing on the on-screen keyboard, glide through albums, scroll through pictures, and zoom web pages, all by touching the multi-touch display layer placed on a capacitive panel in charge with detecting your pressing via electrical fields. Your touch is then sent to the LCD screen under this layer, processed by special software, and interpreted as flicks, taps and pinches.

The on-screen keyboard is different than what you are used with. It adapts its keys and layout for different applications and 21 languages, according to the current mode.

Another technology used in the iPhone, as well as in other high-end handsets on the market, include the accelerometer sensor based on silicon springs that measure the silicon mass position using electrical current, which enables the phone to rotate its image automatically when turned sideways.

The Ambient Light Sensor detects changes in the light conditions and adjusts the display brightness automatically, while the Proximity Sensor feels when something larger than your fingers gets close, turning off the display to save power and to avoid accidental touches on the screen.

The new Thanko All-in-One Glasses

Isn’t it funny how every manufacturer in the world thinks that its product is the most revolutionary and innovative device that anyone could come up with? It’s an understandable attitude if we think about it, because they should be the first to trust their work. It’s only afterwards that consumers’ attention can be turned to the recently released product.
Video glasses, for example, have monopolized the tech world in the last couple of years and have evolved with every new concept. The target public is more and more pretentious nowadays and it’s very hard to pleased, as the needs are not only infinite, but also quite sophisticated.
In the given circumstances, Thanko fell for the trap of creating a set that even an elderly hermit wouldn’t dare to wear. Fortunately, the lack of style was compensated by the sheer amount of tech packed in. We’re talking about the All-in-One glasses multimedia device, a new breakthrough technology developed by Thanko, which allows to watch movies and to listen to music. They provide a 432 x 240 VGA resolution screen which gives you the impression you’re staring at a 50" screen, as they’re stuck so close to your face. The all-in-one glasses are designed to support a wide range of formats, such as MPEG4, ASF, MPG and AVI videos (compatible with DivX 3, 4 and 5, and XviD codecs), as well as JPEG images and MP3 and WMV audio files. In addition, the gadget is compatible with miniSD cards and features a USB2.0 port, for EQ presets. The miniSD cards are your best option because hooking up a thumbdrive or a full blown USB hard disc might render a whole lot difficult keeping the things balanced on your face.
The glasses are provided with a component input which helps you connect them to a DVD player, games console or, even better, to a PSP Slim and Light, in order to enjoy UMD movies and to play games on a decent sized screen. They come in package with two Li-Ion batteries, earphones and a remote control and they are available for an amount of €270.

The handheld is an MP3 player featuring an intuitive user interface, 4 hours of ambiental music composed by Michael Hutchison, SD card slot to expand the internal memory, and USB interface for PC connectivity.Using the Session Designer software LaxEdit you can create visual effects produced according by the music sounds. This stimulates the brain in the same way like when watching a flickering flame or the glittering surface of a lake.
Based on the “frequency following response” psychological principle, the gadget influences the brainwaves, creating the maximum comfort feeling.
You can call it a stress management companion and use it wherever you prefer, benefiting from one of its most important capabilities – learning improvement. Yes, it is said to be very helpful even for people with sleeping problems, as long as you look through the goggles at the visual effects based on every color of the light spectrum.

According to researchers, the light transmits indirectly on the closed or open eyes, and interference patterns generate kaleidoscopic structures in all colors, as well as the Ganzfeld effect.

HomeStar Planetarium Projector

There are millions of billions of stars in the observable Universe, yet we only get to see a tiny fraction of them on a clear night sky. Since the Earth is protected by its own atmosphere, the conditions for stargazing are not always appropriate and that’s why astronomers have built special facilities on top of high mountains. I, for one, am pretty preoccupied with the latest discoveries in astronomy and astrophysics, but I certainly can’t access an astronomical facility whenever I please. However, there’s a solution to my stargazing needs, and it’s known as the HomeStar Planetarium Projector.

This unique projector should enable astrofans like me to view over 10,000 stars right at home. The projector integrates a crystal-clear, rotating field of 10,000 stars based on ultra-bright white LEDS and projects it on your ceiling or wall. Every once in a while the projector may also project a random streaking meteor across you room.

According to Coolest Gadgets, the Planetarium Projector features a slick spherical design which is motorized to move the star map at the same speed the real stars blaze across out skies. HomeStar provides two HD images of the northern and southern hemisphere skies and the user is able to adjust the projection angles in order to display the star fields on either the walls or ceilings.

Fight the dark with Stimuli 3.0

Everytime you work hard on some project of yours and you come up with the greatest idea of them all, you see how the sun is slowly going down, taking away the light you need so much in order to continue. The amount of the available light isn’t enough anymore and all you can do is to just take a break and obediently wait for the next day. It is the most terrible feeling and it brings you at your wits’ end.

But here’s an unusual lamp design concept that catches everyone’s eye even if it does nothing special at all. It looks like a science fiction movie setting object, as if it were the result of an alien civilization.

The Chris Natt designed lamp is a device that keeps up the light level constant: this means that the spherical shape and surrounding panels have a specific function, to constantly adjust the lamp’s light levels to correspond with that coming in through the windows. The so called Stimuli 3.0 is “a lighting system whose shape and therefore light output sensitively varies inversely with the surrounding natural light intensity”, says its designer. For example, at dusk, illumination gradually increases as natural light recedes.

The device is provided at its heart with an unique 3 axis gear box that shifts and rotates the panels to either increase or decrease the brightness of the light. Therefore, the panels block out more or less light. That depends on how much light there is coming from outside.

This is a very weird lamp, you must agree, and it would be perfect for an environment designed to astonish and amuse its inhabitants. It looks like a thing of the future and it would be a great achievement for Chriss Natt to actually mass produce such an attractive prototype and to release it on market under a reasonably price. If the concept will get to see the light of the day, then the designer might consider himself a very lucky guy and make a hit.

Knowledge in your Fingertips

I remember the days when I was a little child and all I could ask was “Why?”. “Why is the sky blue?”. “Why do people love to enter a little box (the TV) and talk to us as if they knew who we are?”. “Why do birds fly and I can’t?”. I was driving my parents crazy with all of these silly questions, but imagine: for someone unfamiliar with so many things, with the world out there, older people, who seemed to know a whole lot more than I did, were my first source of information.

As the years passed by, I replaced people with libraries, and therefore books, documentaries which were broadcasted on different foreign TV channels and later, much later, with the Internet. With the help of a simple search on Google, I could find everything I wanted to know without annoying people for nothing.

But how about Touch-Hear, an innovative concept based on a very advanced technology that converts your fingertips into the most useful source of knowledge and, why not, handier than others? That will certainly change our point of view concerning our fingertips, am I right or not?

You must have come across words you did not fully understand, at least once in a while, and I’m sure you wanted to know its exact meaning. There’s a great line you’ve heard in the movie you saw last night and you want to share it with your girlfriend, but you can’t articulate one word, as French has never been a passion of yours. Yes, you could always use the translation, but what’s the magic in it? Now: what if by only running your finger across the letters of a word, even in different languages, “someone” will whisper in your ear its meaning or pronunciation? So, from now on, foreign words won’t be a problem for you anymore, meanwhile famous events and locations will briefly be explained.

The Touch-Hear is a concept developed by the Design Incubation Centre and could make a whole lot easier the process of studying for exams, as it helps the assimilation of additional information. The purpose of the design research laboratory is to “examine the possibility of expanding the human potential through technological devices, innately empowering users in their everyday activities”.

All you have to do, guys, is to read. No more, no less. But… does this concept apply to handwriting, also? Because, in this case, Touch-Hear must be very patient and intuitive, as some of us skipped calligraphy classes taught in the first grades.

Portable PC Theatre Concept

For those of you who like to impress people with sophisticated PowerPoint presentations, here’s a concept design that could give you the edge when your company needs to pull an important join-venture. Forget about carrying you notebook and the projector separately. This cool concept merges the two into a more compact solution.

According to Ubergizmo, It is known as the portable PC theatre concept, and it combines a full-fledged multimedia PC and a 5.1 surround sound movie system that allows you to make stylish presentations as well as let you enjoy your favorite movies anytime, anywhere. All you need to have handy is a power outlet. Well, you could be using a notebook battery but that won’t last for more than an hour with this hybrid.

If you’re suspecting the projector might be causing some heating problems inside the unified casing, you can always detach it and place it on something firm. Unfortunately, the designer didn’t mention any possible specs for the two devices, not to mention that the design might never get commercialized. I guess the PC can pack enough processing power to end up as a great HTPC, and the projector could integrate the latest technology that enables palm-sized projectors to deliver good enough image quality while still retaining a small-form factor.

LG Preps Superslim DivX DVD Player

It’s not like DVDs are suffering a sudden death now that Blu-rays are finally being embraced. I mean look at CDs, they’re still around, even though most of us don’t need them anymore; music CDs still represent the standard and so do movie DVDs. Nowadays, one could recode HD content and make it fit only a single DVD. LG seems to be pretty interested in such techniques and has just announced the First DivX Certified DVD Player Capable of Playing HD Video.

The press release informs that the sleek player comes in a slim format and can be mounted on a wall. It is known as the DVS450H, and supports the latest DivX codec that allows users to recode HD content so as to fit DVDs instead of Blu-rays, with minimal quality loss. LG’s new player uses a special technology.

"The demand for products that play DivX video has continually driven us to produce solutions that maximize this high-quality experience across a range of product categories," said Dan D.H. Koh, Head of Marketing Strategy Team in LG Electronics' Digital Media Company. "Incorporating support for high-definition DivX video on this DVD player illustrates this in a significant way. We are committed to bringing our customers the very best entertainment solutions and are pleased that working with DivX fulfills this vision."

The player integrates a special “floating” technology that enables DVD playback in both horizontal and vertical positions. That’s why LG recommends the wall mounting option. DVS450H will be available starting October for around $240.

Nokia N96 Official Price

Nokia N96 Available

Finally we have great news but also bad news for the fans of the Nokia N96 unveiled at the Mobile World Congress at the beginning of this year! After reading the rumors speculating on the Nokia N96 release date we finally have something set.
While some will have to wait until October, others have the chance to place an online order now and wait for it to arrive in a few days.
The good news is that the new smartphone is available for pre-orders in the United Kingdom. The bad news is the price of £535 including VAT, which is higher than many of us have expected to be, but you can receive it in just a few days. You can order it from here.
In Asian countries like India and Philippines it is still an upcoming cell phone and we can’t say the exact price which it will be available at, but it will probably cost around $900.

f@n PC Concept

Based on the flexible, multiple-screen computer concept, the f@n looks like a folding fan with each of the four displays capable of performing a specific task simultaneously.

It is not very futuristic as the Everyone’s Computer and you could choose which task to assign to which screen.
Measuring 6 x 15 x 2.5 cm in its normal shape, it would be a great ultra mobile PC for people who have to travel often and need to work via the Internet on the go.

An example of use would be when you chat with friends on one screen, while editing a document on another screen, downloading some music with the third, and listening to a music playlist using the fourth one.
The displays can be rotated at 360 degrees, are touch-sensitive, but the user can add a keyboard if the one provided by the screen is not large enough, and a mouse, depending on what he/she is used with.

And what is fascinating is that you can do these with the screens placed on a desk, sofa or wherever you like, as they are connected to the mainframe wirelessly.
Also, if you are traveling by car, you might need to use one of the screens for GPS functionality, or when you are at a friend’s place it would be cool to give a screen to each of the people present and play a funny game together in multi-player mode.
